Lemitar is a small unincorporated community in Socorro County, New Mexico, located about 20 miles south of Socorro. The community has a population of around 350 people. It is situated near the Rio Grande and is surrounded by beautiful mountains. The area has a rich cultural heritage, including Native American and Hispanic influences. Agriculture, specifically chile and pecan farming, is a major industry in the area. The community has a small elementary school, post office, general store, and a Catholic church, which is a prominent landmark in the area. The nearby Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge is a popular destination for birdwatching and wildlife viewing.
